Irish Coffee

Irish Coffee

The Irish Coffee is a simple and delicious drink: just coffee, sugar, whiskey, and cream. Here we recreate three legendary recipes from the Buena Vista cafe, Dead Rabbit, and Erin Rose.



EQUIPMENT

  1. Cocktail set (includes Boston shaker, jigger, bar spoon, hawthorne strainer, fine mesh strainer, julep strainer, muddler, cocktail picks)

  2. Georgian Irish Coffee Glasses

  3. Angled measuring jigger

  4. Clever Dripper

  5. Blender

  6. Hand blender


Buena Vista Irish Coffee

  • 2 sugar cubes

  • Dark coffee

  • 1.5oz (45ml) Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey

  • Heavy cream

  1. Fill glass with hot water and dump

  2. Add sugar to coffee glass

  3. Fill up glass 3/4 way

  4. Add whiskey

  5. Lightly whip the cream

  6. Top with cream using a spoon


Dead Rabbit Irish Coffee

  • .625oz (20ml) rich demerara syrup (2 parts demerara sugar to 1 part water)

  • 4oz (120ml) hot coffee

  • 1.5oz (45ml) Clontarf Irish Whiskey

  • 1oz (30ml) heavy cream

  1. Fill glass with hot water and dump

  2. Add coffee to glass

  3. Add whiskey and syrup

  4. Give a quick stir

  5. Lightly whip the cream

  6. Top with cream using a spoon


Erin Rose Frozen Irish Coffee

  • 1oz (30ml) brandy

  • 1oz (30ml) coffee liqueur

  • 2oz (60ml) cold strong coffee

  • 1/3 cup vanilla ice cream

  • 4 cubes ice

  • 1/8 teaspoon coffee grounds, for garnish (optional)

  1. Combine the ice cream, ice cubes, coffee, brandy and coffee liqueur in a blender.

  2. Puree on HIGH until the ice is completely broken down and the mixture is the consistency of a milkshake.

  3. Serve in a highball glass.

  4. Sprinkle a pinch of coffee grounds over the top of each.
